Recommended Watering Schedule Begins June 1st
May 29, 2026
Happy Friday Neighbors -
Just a quick reminder that our annual recommended watering schedule begins on Monday (June 1st), details here. Of course, we've had so much rain lately that you may not be thinking about watering the lawn, but it will dry out eventually and everyone will be turning on their systems.
This weekend is a great time to prepare for that. Before you set your system to run for the season, we recommend the following at minimum:
- Briefly run each zone of your system and investigate each spray head for leaks and misalignment that will cost you money by wasting water.
- Replace the cardboard discs in your rain sensor.
- Set your controller to run on your watering days according to the recommended watering schedule.
If you really want to increase efficiency and save yourself money, we recommend the following additional steps:
- Install a smart irrigation controller. It will cost you a couple hundred dollars but you can easily install it yourself in a few hours. It will save you thousands in the long run. We documented our installation here.
- Install a rain gauge and then calculate your system's application rate in each zone. Use the application rate to determine how long to run your system to supplement natural rainfall so that your lawn gets about 1 inch per week. (Instructions here)
